Year 2 Pip and Pap Phonics Workshop

Year 2 parents and pupils enjoyed reading Purple Phase Book 16, "Doc's Surgery" together in their Pip and Pap Parent and Pupil Phonics workshop!

The book focused on recapping alternative pronunciations for graphemes that pupils have already met, such as 'g' making the /j/ sound in words like "surgery," 'wr' making the /r/ sound in words like wrist, 'ture' making a /ch/ in words like "fracture" and the grapheme 'mb' making a /m/ sound in words like "numb" and "thumb."

Then, pupils answered comprehension questions using a range of different reading skills, such as retrieving, inferring and predicting, before completing an art activity with their parents!

In the book, Doc sees many patients and gives them an x-ray! Pupils and parents create their own x-rays with chalk and cotton buds! Aren't they splendid?

Our phonics workshops for families in Year R-2 run every other week. All are welcome, please ask your child's class teacher or at the office for more details!
