Year one have been back in school for 5 whole weeks now and WOW they are ready to learn. It has been amazing to watch their eager faces come into school every morning and watch them settle into the day. We start every morning with our PSHE topics and have focused on emotions; such as surprise, sadness and fear. We have also been looking at our buzz word ‘brave’ and what this means to each of us. The children have been amazing at telling me every day when they have been brave at home and school.
We have been reading the book ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers and have been helping the ‘boy’ get the penguin home by writing found posters. The class have been looking at nouns, adjectives and verbs while writing the poster. In our phonics we have been recapping sound learned in Year R and learning more sounds everyday.
In Maths, we have been looking at place value and ordering numbers, we have looked at one more than and one less than and used a variety of practical resources to help us with our number. We have now moved onto addition and subtraction with numbers within 20.
Our home reading has been great and most children are on 5 or more reads per week – keep this up! We have started to visit the library and can now take books home to read – remember these can count towards your daily read.
Well done for a great start to the year!
