Year R Parent and Child Workshop

Parents and pupils in Reception enjoyed reading Pip and Pap Phonics book "Nan and the Pin" together in class!

This book recapped the grapheme - phoneme correspondences /g/ /o/ /c/ and /k/ and the Earth Words "I", "the", "to", "no" and "go."

Pupils sounded out and read words to their parents such as "scan," "stop," "on", "Doc" and "pot," as part of the story, before answering questions on what they had read, linked to different comprehension skills.

In this story, Nan accidentally swallows a hairpin and has to go for an x-ray! Pupils and parents created their own skeletons together as part of an art activity - don't they look fantastic?

They also talked about what to do in an emergency if somebody swallows something that they shouldn't have!

We run parent and child phonics workshops every other week, where we share a decodable story, complete an art activity and discuss the key themes of the book together. Please ask your child's class teacher or the school office for more information.
