Year 2 blog:
When Year 2 returned to their classroom, they were met with a shocking sight: their once orderly classroom was in complete disarray. The chairs were turned over, papers scattered everywhere, and something seemed... off. At the front of the room, on Miss White’s chair, lay a letter. But this wasn’t just any letter – it was a resignation letter from the class’s stationery!
It turns out, the pens, pencils, rulers, and glue sticks had had enough. According to the letter, they were quitting because Year 2 hadn’t been looking after them properly. They listed their grievances: glue sticks with their lids left off, rulers being used to twang on tables, and pens being dropped or snapped without care. In no uncertain terms, the stationery demanded that the class be more respectful in the future if they wanted them to return.
After the initial shock wore off, Year 2 knew they had to take action. They set to work cleaning up the mess that the stationery had left behind, but they didn’t stop there. Realising that this was a serious lesson in taking care of the things they used every day, the class decided to write a heartfelt apology letter to ask their stationery to come back.
Inspired by the book The Day the Crayons Quit, Year 2 will be using this experience to focus on writing persuasive letters this half-term. They will draw on the writing skills they’ve already learned, such as using correct punctuation, clear sentences, and engaging vocabulary, and add some new techniques to really make their letters stand out.
