Year 2 blog:

Our Year 2 parents and pupils enjoyed reading Pip and Pap story "The Youth Group" together, recapping alternative pronunciations for graphemes we already know.

They focused on grapheme-phoneme correspondences such as:

/oa/ spelt 'ow', in words like 'bowling'

short /oo/ spelt 'ou', in words like 'youth' and 'group'

/k/ spelt 'ch', in words like 'headache' and 'orchestra'.

After they read the story and answered questions about what they had read, parents and pupils made their own bowling game with water bottles! Aren't they fantastic? We hope you had fun with them at home.

Remember, we run phonics workshops every other week in years R to 2 - all are welcome!
