National Poetry Day
To celebrate National Poetry Day today, we held a special assembly! This year's theme is 'Refuge'.
We studied some of Michael Rosen's poems in his book 'On the Move', which is around the theme of migration.
As a School of Sanctuary, we are very aware of the issues facing refugees and asylum seekers around the world and we are passionate about ensuring Sinclair is a safe, welcoming and inclusive haven for all.
As part of Poetry Day, each teacher read their favourite poem to the school in assembly!
Miss Keen chose: "Don't put the mustard in the custard", by Michael Rosen
Mr Pallett chose: "If," by Rudyard Kipling
Miss White chose: "On the Ning Nang Nong," by Spike Millgan
Miss Phillips chose: "Friends," by Abbie Farwell Brown
Mr Samuels chose: "The Raven," by Edgar Allen Poe
Mr Walker chose: "Dancing Bear," by Charles Causley
Mr Howlett chose: "The Black Out," by Mary Desiree Anderson
Mrs Olney chose: "From a Railway Carriage," by Robert Lewis Stevenson.
We also have a special competition running for Year R - all parents have been sent a copy of the poem 'Pap and Pip'. If you are able to send in a video of your child performing the poem, they may win a prize - a Pip and Pap book of their choice! Please note that we will feature all images sent in across our Pip and Pap and partnership websites. Please ask your child's class teacher for more details.
