Year 3 Update.

Year 3 have had an amazing start to the year and we have already achieved so much!

Awesome Authors

Inspired by David Walliams, the year 3 children have thoroughly enjoyed creating and writing about their very own ‘World’s Worst Children’ characters. We have used our imagination to develop our characters and create engaging descriptions using powerful adjectives and verbs. We have explored key personality traits and understood how their behaviour may impact on those around them. No one wants Noisy Nigel in their classroom!

Marvellous Mathematicians

As marvellous mathematicians, we have enjoyed exploring and partitioning 3-digit numbers using a range of resources this half term. We are now able to identify hundreds, tens and ones in a given number and use this knowledge to order and compare, estimate, read and write numbers to 1000. We have then been applying our understanding to a range of mathematical problems with confidence.

Science

We have been using our knowledge of Mary Anning from year 2 and how she recorded her findings of fossils on the coast of Lyme Regis to record and categorise different types of rock based on their appearance and properties.   We have been exploring the properties and uses of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks! We have also discovered how fossils are created and the creatures that are fossilised within them which is like looking through a lens to the creatures that lived in the past.

Geography

This half term, we have channelled our inner Bear Grylls and have explored our landscapes and compared the differences across the UK. We have used atlases to plot capital cities and rivers across the UK and then considered the features and uses of these over time.

Miss Brown has been incredibly impressed by how enthusiastically the children have approached their learning across all subjects this year so far and is very excited by what they will achieve for the rest of the year!
