Parent and Child workshops!
In each workshop, children teach parents the grapheme-phoneme correspondences that they will meet in the book (matching letters to sounds.)
Then, parents and pupils practise sounding out and blending key words that they will meet in the books together. We always discuss the meaning of the words before beginning our story.
Parents have a list of verbal comprehension questions to ask during the story, to make sure that their child understands what they are reading, as well as decoding correctly!
Finally, parents and pupils complete an art activity linked to the book, and an oracy activity, where a key theme in the story is discussed.
The gallery below shows the boats that parents and pupils made together, linked to the story "Toab's Boat." After reading the book "Nail Polish," parents and pupils created footprints in flip flops and painted the toes together! In their most recent workshop, "The Sweet Shop," parents and children used tissue paper to create their own confectionary creations!
It has been wonderful to welcome so many parents in to school as part of our workshops. We very much look forward to welcoming you after half term for more Pip and Pap Phonics fun!
