Sanctuary Week 2026:
Celebrating Courage
This week, our school has proudly taken part in Refugee Week 2026, exploring the theme of Courage.
Throughout the week, children from Reception to Year 6 have reflected on the many different ways courage can be shown – from trying something new and speaking up for others, to showing kindness, making new friends and helping people feel welcomed and included.
Our week began with children creating Courage Clouds, sharing moments when they had been brave and setting themselves new challenges to try. We then explored the idea of journeys, thinking about the things we would take with us on an important journey and learning that every journey tells a story.
As the week continued, children celebrated what makes each of us unique by creating Identity Shields.
On Thursday, we focused on how small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Children wrote Courage Compliments for one another and created Pebbles of Hope to place in our wellbeing and OWWL garden as reminders of encouragement, friendship and hope.
Through stories, discussions and activities, our pupils have developed a deeper understanding of belonging, empathy and community. Refugee Week has reminded us all that courage comes in many forms and that even the smallest acts of kindness can help others feel safe, valued and welcomed.
