School Trip Year 2:

Year 2 brimmed with excitement as they embarked on their long-awaited trip to Marwell Zoo. In the days leading up to the excursion, they eagerly mapped out which creatures they most wanted to encounter and thought about the questions they hoped to have answered.

Upon arrival at Marwell Zoo, their first stop was the penguin enclosure, where the charming birds lounged lazily on the sun-kissed rocks. Delving into penguin habitats and dietary habits, the children soaked in every fascinating detail.

Next, they were greeted by the graceful flamingos, where Mrs. Wood, armed with her fact file, eagerly fielded the children's inquiries. Much to their surprise, they discovered that a gathering of flamingos is called a flamboyance, adding a delightful twist to their learning experience.

Venturing further, they found themselves immersed in the sprawling savannah, encountering zebras, giraffes, and antelope. Mrs. Wood's informative narration illuminated the children's understanding, highlighting intriguing facts such as the astonishing length of a giraffe's tongue, which they witnessed first-hand during a visit to the giraffe house.

The journey continued with a visit to the lively meerkats, observing one dutifully standing guard over its companions. We then searched for the illusive tigers, who we found both napping in the sun together, we dared not wake them!

A well-deserved lunch break ensued, with the company of a friendly duck and watchful crows adding to the charm of the moment. Energised and refuelled, we proceeded to the tropical house, where they marvelled at the lush foliage and engaged in an enlightening workshop on the rainforest. Miss White was very proud with the confident way we answered questions, linking to our recent rainforest topic and some previous year one learning.

Passing through the wallaby enclosure and the captivating Life among the Trees exhibit, they enjoyed the sight of animals swinging in the trees.  Finally, they encountered the majestic snow leopard and the languid hippos, concluding their adventure on a high note.
Throughout the day, the students of Year 2 showcased outstanding behaviour, demonstrating a genuine curiosity and respect for their surroundings. As they departed from Marwell Zoo, their hearts were filled with the excitement of new discoveries and cherished memories, despite their weary feet and legs. Year 2's enthusiasm and engagement were truly commendable. Congratulations on a day well spent, Year 2!
