Year 2 Celebrate National Poetry Day!
To celebrate National Poetry Day and the National Year of Reading, Year 2 had lots of fun creating their very own acrostic poem.
The children first learned how to write an acrostic poem and thought carefully about words and phrases that would fit with each letter. We chose the word READING because reading is such an important part of our learning and because we wanted to celebrate the joy of books and stories.
Everyone shared their favourite ideas and suggestions, and we worked together as a class to choose our favourites and put them together to create our finished poem.
READING
R – Reading is fun
E – Escape from reality
A – Adventures wait inside
D – Dive into adventures
I – Imagine wonderful things
N – Never stop reading
G – Great stories to enjoy
The children were very proud of their poem and enjoyed sharing it aloud. They showed fantastic oracy skills, listening to each other's ideas and working together to create a poem that celebrates why we love reading!
What a wonderful way for Year 2 to celebrate National Poetry Day and the National Year of Reading!
