Year 2 Pip and Pap Phonics Workshop

Year 2 parents and pupils had great fun reading the Pip and Pap Phonics story "Professor Scol" together!

Within this story, they recapped grapheme-phoneme correspondences from the advanced phonetic code, such as:

/ch/ spelt 'ture', in words like 'picture'

/j/ spelt 'ge', in words like 'orange'

/m/ spelt 'mb', in words like 'thumb'

/s/ spelt 'se',  in words like 'house'

/z/ spelt 'se', in words like 'cheese'

/r/ spelt 'wr', in words like 'write'

/s/ spelt 'st', in words like 'listen'

/j/ spelt dge, in words like 'fudge'

/u/ spelt 'o', in words like 'month'

/n/ spelt 'kn' or 'gn' in words like 'knot' or 'sign'

As part of the workshop, they talked about future careers they might like and training routes to get there. Pupils answered comprehension questions about the story, after reading it aloud with fluency to their parents. Finally, pupils and parents created their own 'Professors Hats' together - aren't they fabulous?

We will be running Pip and Pap Phonics workshops every other week at Sinclair in EYFS, Y1 and Y2, during the Summer Term. Please ask your child's class teacher for more details.
