Year R blog:

Our Reception children have been exploring the past through the exciting topic of bikes! They have been developing their history skills by looking carefully at pictures, comparing objects and learning how artefacts can tell us about different people and times.

The children enjoyed looking at photographs of different bikes and thinking about who might own them. They then had the opportunity to bring in their own bikes and enjoy riding them around the playground!

We explored how bikes come in different shapes and sizes, sorting them by size and discussing which bikes might be suitable for different people. The children also matched bikes to different ages and stages, using their new vocabulary to explain their thinking.

It was wonderful to see the children sharing their ideas, making comparisons and learning that objects from the past can help us understand how things have changed over time.

What fantastic little historians!
