World Book Day:

World Book Day at Sinclair was nothing short of magical this year, with the whole school coming together to celebrate the joy of reading in the most creative ways.

As children arrived at school, they were greeted by an incredible sight, classroom doors had been transformed by teachers into colourful, book-themed displays.

Staff also fully embraced the fun by dressing up as characters from the beloved book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. There were plenty of Oompa Loompas wandering the corridors, along with some wonderfully creative touches – blue noses, chocolate-smeared mouths, and even TVs! It really felt as though the chocolate factory had taken over Sinclair for the day.

One of the highlights of the morning was a fantastic assembly led entirely by our Reading Ambassadors and Librarians. They had written and delivered the assembly themselves, demonstrating pupil leadership at its very best. They spoke passionately about their love of reading and helped inspire the rest of the school to discover new books and stories.

We were also incredibly proud to celebrate some special achievements. Phoebe received a special mention in assembly after having an article published this month in a national library magazine – a wonderful accomplishment and a real inspiration to other young writers. Harry also shared something very special: he created his own book about his World Book Day experiences over his time at Sinclair, showing just how meaningful this celebration of reading has been for him.

Across the school, children brought in the free books they had chosen using their World Book Day vouchers. One title that proved especially popular was Bunny vs Monkey, which many children were excited to share with their friends.

The celebrations continued throughout the week at lunchtime, where the theme was all about books. With the sunshine making a welcome appearance, children enjoyed playing book-related games outside and relaxing with friends while reading in the fresh air. It was wonderful to see so many pupils choosing to share stories together.

The day ended with a very special celebration assembly. In true chocolate-factory style, Willy Wonka himself  handed every child an envelope. Inside one of them was a coveted golden ticket! There was huge excitement as the envelopes were opened, and the lucky winner was Iga, who proudly discovered the golden ticket inside hers.

World Book Day at Sinclair was a brilliant reminder of the power of stories to bring people together. From creative costumes and pupil-led assemblies to sharing books with friends in the sunshine, the whole day was filled with imagination, laughter and a genuine love of reading.

We can’t wait to see what next year’s celebration will bring!
