Year 2 blog:
Year 2 had an amazing day out at Marwell Zoo in the glorious sunshine! As soon as we arrived, we were excited to explore and meet lots of different animals.
One of our first stops was the giraffes – did you know that a group of giraffes is called a tower? We were fascinated to see them up close. After the giraffes, we spotted a tiger fast asleep, basking in the sun. He didn’t even move while we were taking photos!
As we made our way around the zoo, we saw so many more animals on the way to our Adaptations Workshop. Unfortunately, during our walk through the hot house, the sloth was snoozing in his little home. Still, we really felt like we were in the rainforest! It was the perfect moment to put all the knowledge we learned in the Autumn term about rainforests to good use.
In the Adaptations Workshop, we explored how different animals have adapted to their habitats. Thanks to our Science topic on habitats earlier in the year, we were able to answer lots of questions and make great links to what we already knew.
After the long-awaited lunchtime (which we were all ready for!), we visited the meerkats. They were very curious and kept following us along the enclosure. We even saw one standing tall, guarding the den. Did you know that a group of meerkats is called a mob, gang, or clan?
We were lucky enough to see the rhinos having a mud bath – they really looked like they were enjoying themselves! The penguins were also a big highlight. Their enclosure was being updated, so they were staying in a temporary home, splashing and playing in a swimming pool.
Before heading home, we took a swing through the monkey house. Finally, we boarded the coach back to school – tired, hot, but full of joy and bursting with facts to use in our upcoming writing project about the trip.
What an unforgettable day!
