Pip and Pap Workshop Year 2:

Parents and pupils in Year 2 enjoyed reading Purple Phase Book 12 "The Space Race" together in the sunny weather, recapping at alternative pronunciations for graphemes we already know.

For example, pupils read words such as:

The letters 'ow' making an /oa/ sound, in words like: arrows

The letters 'ie' making an /ee/ sound, in words like: diesel

The letters 'ea' making an /e/ sound, in words like: bread

The letters 'ou' or 'oul' making a long or short /oo/, or /oa/ in words like: group or boulder

The letter 'y' making an /igh/ /i/ or /ee/ sound, in words like: frying, gym, community

The letters 'ch' making a /k/ or /sh/ sound, in words like: chaos or chef

The letter 'c' making a /s/ sound, in words like: space

The letter 'g' making a /j/ sound, in words like magic

The letters 'ey' making an /ai/ sound, in words like grey

In this story, Pock cheats in the space racing event - but Gran is slow and steady and wins the race! Pupils and parents talked about the morals in the story, before answering questions about what they had read. Then, they used weaving techniques to make their own chequered flag! We especially love their 'Pip and Pap' inspired flags!

We run Pip and Pap workshops every two weeks in Years R-2 - please ask your child's class teacher for more details!
