This week marked our first Phonics Workshop with our new Year R families. We began the session by revisiting the graphemes s, a, t, p, i, n alongside our newly taught Earth Words: I, the, to, no, go.

The children whose family members attended were able to share their own copy of the book and follow along as Miss B modelled the reading on the board. The story followed Pip and Pap as they navigated a zebra crossing and traffic lights. However, things went wrong when Nan suddenly crossed the road!

The children then had the opportunity to consolidate their learning through a practical activity. They created their own traffic lights and annotated them using the words ‘no’ on red and ‘go’ on green. This provided a fun and meaningful way for the children to apply their phonics knowledge while reinforcing the importance of road safety.

We look forward to welcoming many more families to our next session after half term!
