As part of National Poetry Day, the children at Sinclair were challenged to become poets and create their own poems. They explored different ideas, experimented with vocabulary and used their imagination to bring their words to life.
Our Year 6 children particularly enjoyed creating poems inspired by nature, using powerful adjectives, similes and descriptive language to paint a picture with their words.
Here is one fantastic example:
The Nature Poem
Nature is full of secrets and wonder,
Outrageous storms and ferocious thunder,
Seagulls glide over the sapphire ocean,
As the sea stirs like a diamond potion,
All the hydrated clouds float in the sky,
And all the birds and pigeons soar so high
While the dangerous apes grumble,
All the energetic monkeys tumble.
What a wonderful celebration of poetry, imagination and language! The children have shown that poetry gives us the opportunity to look at the world differently, play with words and share our ideas and creativity with others.
Well done, Sinclair poets!
