Year Six breaktime webinar with an author:
Some keen readers from Y6 gathered in the meeting room to join an online zoom with Katherine Rundell- an author whose books we study.
We found out that:
Her favourite word is- impossible, and she thinks that believing that impossible things can happen is fun.
It is important to include food in your stories and to have tried the things yourself so you can really describe them well.
When researching for her book The Explorer, her guide had the tip of his finger bitten by a piranha they were trying to catch for dinner.
She grew up in Zimbabwe and loved seeing and spending time in nature.
For one of her stories she went on a trapeze circus skills course to see what it would feel like to learn to fly. One day she fell and the net caught her but she grazed her face slightly, so she included that for her character in a book.
