Year 4 blog post

This half term, the class of Year 4 have hit the ground running with our studies. In maths, we have used our foundational knowledge that we have developed in the Autumn term and have applied it to new topics in maths such as statistics and more recently, fractions. Our class have really enjoyed diving into this concept and have been able to explore fractions in depth, explaining every part in detail to show our understanding; using real life examples to support.

In English, we have been working on our creative toolkit, specifically using it to create an intended effect in the reader. For our spooky setting, we wanted our reader to begin by feeling uneasy, and then end our piece by feeling terrified! We are getting very good at increasing tension in our writing through our careful use of language.

In science, we have really enjoyed investigating the concept of sound and how it travels. We have used different tools to determine which state of matter is the best for transporting the vibrations of particles and why. Then, we explored what happens when sound actually gets to your ear! In our favourite lesson, we found out how pitch and volume effect sound. This was really enjoyable because we got to use many instruments and made quite a few loud noises! Our learning in science has been driven by our curiosity and enjoyment of our practical experiments. We learn whilst we are active together!
