Year 1 Blog

Wow! What an amazing start to the year in year one! We have been really busy working hard and having lots of fun at the same time!  Here are some of the exciting things we have been up to:

Our Writing Learning

This half term, we have been reading the incredible book - Lost and Found. We have then written a poster for a penguin that we have found! We focused on using adjectives to make our writing more interesting and to make the reader feel sorry for the penguin! While using these features, we continued to develop our year one skills such as using capital letters correctly, full stops and finger spaces. We also worked hard on using the conjunction ‘and’ to join 2 sentences together.

Our Maths Learning

We continue to revisit place value and counting numbers forwards and backwards up to 100. We have also been counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. We have enjoyed singing songs to help us count in this way! We have also been making numbers using practical resources such as cubes, dienes and discs to deepen our understanding of place value.

We have recently been learning about doubling and halving as well as using practical resources and jottings to help us to deepen our understanding of multiplication and division.

Our Geography Learning

We have been learning about Kenya, thinking about the weather, the continent and local people. We have been thinking about how lives are different and have been comparing our lives to that of the Masai Tribe. We learned that the Masai wear coloured beaded jewellery  that embody their culture. We then made our own jewellery thinking about what our values are.
