Year 1 Pip and Pap Workshop:
Year 1 parents and pupils enjoyed reading Pink Phase Book "Taz and the Cat" together as part of their family phonics workshop this week.
They recapped the grapheme phoneme correspondences:
/ai/ in words such as 'fail' and 'afraid'.
/ee/ in words such 'needs' and 'agree'
/igh/ in words such as 'fright' and 'tight'
/oa/ in words such as 'oak' and 'foam'
/oo/ in words such as 'rooftop' and 'looking'
They read sentences aloud with fluency and expression, such as "The cat has had a fright. It looks afraid. Min and Flom stand next to the oak tree." Then parents and pupils answered comprehension questions about the story, focusing on vocabulary, retrieval and inference skills.
Finally, they made their own feline friends - aren't they lovely? In each Pip and Pap family workshop, we read together and we create something! Workshops typically run every other week in Year R to Year 2 - ask at the office for more details.
