Year 1 Phonics Workshop- Doc's Job

Year 1 parents and children enjoyed an afternoon of reading the Pip and Pap pink phase book, Doc's Job.

The children opened proceedings by discussing the book's cover and practising the focus sounds and Earth words they would encounter

when reading the story. They impressed everyone with their knowledge of digraphs, when explaining how two letters can make one sound.

Also, we discussed how the new trigraph (three letters making one sound) tch, makes the same sound as the digraph ch.

In the story, Doc has had a busy day at work helping all the poorly aliens with their various ailments. At the close of the story,  the children

answered questions about Doc's day and we decided to write get well soon cards.  The art activity linked to the theme of the story and everybody

enjoyed creating supportive messages and colourful cards. The children took their cards home and were thrilled with their afternoons hard work.

What a fabulous afternoon was had by all in the pursuit of improving fluency in reading and practising our artistic skills. We can't wait for the next one. Thanks to all involved!
