Year 1 Celebrate National Poetry Day
To celebrate National Poetry Day, Year 1 enjoyed becoming poets and creating their very own acrostic poem.
The children learned how an acrostic poem works and thought carefully about words and phrases linked to autumn. They shared their ideas with the class and worked together to choose their favourite suggestions for each letter of the word AUTUMN.
The children thought about all the things they enjoy and notice during autumn, including colourful leaves, shiny conkers, acorns, rain and cosy days.
AUTUMN
A – Acorns fall from the mighty oak tree
U – Umbrellas protecting us from the autumn rain
T – Tree leaves changing colour
U – Underfoot are shiny conkers
M – Many colours all around you
N – Nice and cosy by the fire
The children were very proud of their poem and enjoyed sharing it with others as part of our National Poetry Day celebrations. They worked brilliantly together, listening to each other's ideas and using their developing oracy skills to bring their poem to life!
