Year 5 blog:
Learning how to cycle safely and confidently is such an important life skill, and this week some of our Year 5 children had the opportunity to take part in Bikeability training.
The children worked on developing their confidence and skills when riding their bikes safely. Some completed Level 1, where they practised important skills such as controlling their bike, starting and stopping safely, signalling and looking around them carefully.
Others went on to complete Level 2, which gave them the opportunity to take their skills out onto local roads. They learnt more about making safe decisions, positioning themselves correctly on the road and being aware of other road users.
It was lovely to see how much the children’s confidence grew throughout the sessions. They listened really carefully to the instructors, supported one another and showed lots of determination, even when some of the skills felt a little tricky at first.
These are skills that will help the children become safer and more independent cyclists, both now and as they get older.
A big well done to everyone who took part. We hope you keep putting those new cycling skills into practice!
